£120,000 worth of ICE and compilers

from NXP (and Keil)

NXP and KEil with Universities

Phaedrus Systems got a bit of a surprise when an engineer at NXP (formerly Philips Semiconductors) called us and said we have a pile of 8051 emulators and Keil PK51 compilers to donate to a good home.

As NXP said Phaedrus Systems does a lot with Universities. So we called the top universities we knew doing 8051 and then arranged with Keil, now an ARM company, to generously upgrade the compilers, 5 per ICE, to the latest versions.  A total of 40 PK51 compilers worth £1700 each!

So at the end of January 2007 the selected universities gathered at NXP Southampton, see picture above, to receive from Chris Hills with Martin Locket of NXP and Bill Hohl of Keil/ARM the 8051 ICE and the 5-pack of PK51 8051 compilers along with other goodies from Phaedrus Systems. The package is worth over £15K to each university.

NXP laid on a tour of some of the projects NXP are working on. These have to be seen to be believed! Literally, as they are working on the next generation of visual media systems, “television” is no longer and adequate word. After the glimpse of the future Bill Hohl of ARM Academic Program explained how the ARM university program worked to a very attentive audience.

If other companies followed NXP’s lead and donated serviceable equipment they no longer need to the universities it would help them greatly. So if anyone does have any surplus equipment please contact Chris at Phaedrus Systems as we have a long list of universities. contact us.
